I want to give you a little background on this tribute to my Dad, my Papa, before you read the letter I wrote to him. You see, Dad's health had been frail since his triple by-pass surgery in 1988 and he was steadily declining in health at the time that I wrote this. Father's Day was coming and I had a gut feeling that this was going to be Dad's last Father's Day here on earth.

With that in mind, I felt it was time to let Dad know (even though I told him often) how much I love him and how thankful I was to have him as a father. Hence, I wrote this letter to him and e-mailed the page to him on Father's Day as my Father's Gift. My Dad was so happy when he read this letter that he called me right away and thanked me because, as he said, "You never know if you did well enough as a parent; and you question whether or not you did the right things." This letter gave my Dad peace of mind that all he had done for me was not forgotten nor unappreciated. The letter was written from my heart and I still mean every word of it.

As it turned out, my "gut feeling" was right because Dad passed away the following Spring, on April 2nd, 2004. I am so glad that I had this opportunity to tell my Dad how much he meant to me. He was, and is, a beautiful soul. Please click the link below and let me introduce you to "My Papa", and the way I saw him through my eyes.
